Newton House is an independent, Christian Preparatory and College that specialises in helping children of an average to high intellect who are underperforming or have barriers to learning.

We are a school for children who are experiencing learning difficulties and who need help coping at school.

These challenges are due to genetic factors or specific emotional and/or learning challenges and have been identified and tested by educators and/or professionals such as Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, and/or Paediatricians and other Medical Practitioners.

There are some needs that we are unable to cater for, such as severe autism, blindness and deafness. More about this can be found under our admissions information.

Approach to Education

Preparatory

We are a four term school that works according to the prescribed content and assessment standards of the National CAPS Curriculum.

College

Preparation for the matriculation examination by following the curriculum of the National Department of Education. In Grade 12, the students sit for the National Senior Certificate Examination.

Award Systems

We believe in awards and use them to recognise significant achievement and motivate our pupils. Children who excel will be eligible for Colours, Half-Colours, Merit Badges as well as Certificates of Merit. We award children in academics, sports and emotional intelligence.

Educational Class Visits

Exposing pupils to activities and venue outings contribute to the wider education of each child and is important to our curriculum.

Multi-disciplinary Approach

Working with on-site ancillary Health Professionals assists with educational progress. This collaboration between the School and Health Professionals ensures that the right approach for your child is implemented.

Community Investment

Our students are guided by the motto, ‘We Rise By Lifting Others’. Our students and their families donate to various charities that the school supports.

  • CLAW Animal Shelter
  • Equine Therapy Association
  • Guide Dogs Association
  • Build the Future Initiative – Kyasands
  • Tsholofelo Children’s Home
